Thank you for your interest in volunteering with EquiVenture Therapeutic Riding. We provide therapeutic riding classes weekly from May through September and there are special events throughout the summer such as the fair, various demos and horse shows. Classes vary from 20 to 45 minutes in length and there are up to 5 riders in a class. The average volunteer commitment is 4 hours per week.
The minimum age for volunteers to lead or sidewalk is 14 years.
There are some opportunities for 12 to 13 year olds with horse experience to help in the barn.
There are also fences to be painted, barn and farm maintence. Come help us out!
Class Times
Classes are at the EquiVenture barn.
Thursdays set-up is usually 1 hour before the riders get started. On Thursdays set up is at 3:00 pm and classes start at 4:00pm. We put-away the horses and feed around 7:45-8:00 pm. Setup includes getting the horses in the barn, grooming, saddling and various other duties.
Requirements
Basic requirements are a comfort level around horses and the desire to help riders with a disability get the most out of each lesson. Volunteers also need to be able to walk for 45 minutes (with some stops along the way) in an indoor arena or outside.
We offer Orientation Training at the EquiVenture barn for you to see the facility and learn about our program. Orientation is required by our national standards through NARHA. Let us know if you are interested and we will set up training for you.
Training is conducted in May at EquiVenture. Please contact us at: bonnieflynn1@aol.com for exact dates.
Our location is: 6086 West County Road, 250 South; Russiaville, Indiana (just west of Western Schools) Map
The training sessions are held in the activity room and then we will move to the barn arena for hands on demonstrations.
Please make sure you fill out the volunteer forms and be sure to wear clothing and footwear suitable for being around horses and in the dust.
